A father and son were on a long journey with a donkey and at the start of the journey the father put the boy on the donkey and walked beside the donkey. Some people who saw them pass were very offended and complained “how can an old man, a father, be walking while the child sits on the donkey???” when the father heard this he felt bad and so he got his son off the donkey and got on the donkey himself with his son walking on the side of the donkey. He thought “I am doing the right thing now”. But before he finished his sentence some other people in the area sow them and said “what a cruel father. He is on the donkey comfortable while he has his son on foot.” when the father heard this he felt so bad that he got off the donkey, but both the father and the son did not know how to use their donkey. They thought to themselves and continued on their journey with the donkey walking without any of them on it. But the response they got from passerby was not any better. “This is the problem with rich people they have too much and yet they do not use it. Why does he make his little boy walk while they have a fine donkey? “The man decided to try one more thing; both the father and the son got on the donkey and continued on their journey. Low and behold people still had something to say about that as well, “Poor donkey” they said, “why do they have to kill the donkey with both of them sitting on it?” Confused with all the comments coming, father and son thought for a moment and decided to carry the donkey together, but this did not last enough too; the people who saw them carrying the donkey burst out laughing saying “what a fools” it should have been the other way around, you should be transported by the donkey. It is now that both came to their senses realizing that no matter what someone does, people have something to say about it, bearing this in their mind they continued their journey their own way irrespective of other people comments.
“People will always have something to say” whether you do what you want or what they want, what is right or what is wrong, your way or their way and so on. So just live your life the way you want it, because there is a reason it is called ‘your’ life and not theirs.
So whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about and do such things.”
